Photogrammetry

The Downland Partnership and its employees have a long history in providing photogrammetric drawings of historic buildings and objects that stretch back into the 1970s.

The use of modern high resolution digital cameras and digital photogrammetric systems has transformed the ease in which the technology is used and brought it into the modern age.

A combination of photogrammetry and laser scanning are used for most large scale building projects making use of the different strengths of the technologies. Laser scanning has the advantage of fast capture for large data sets whilst photogrammetry has the advantage of better resolution for interpreting information such as stone joints and textural information. Other advantages include better sensor access. A camera can be used from a hydraulic platform or from a telescopic pole whereas laser scanners need a stable base from which to operate.
